Question

Q1. A mass of 0.2 kg of helium is compressed reversibly in a cylinder according to the law pVn= constant.

The initial pressure and temperature are 1.01 bar and 25℃ respectively.

The final pressure and temperature are 9.5 bar and 213℃ respectively.

(a) Sketch The process on Pressure-Volume and Temperature-specific entropy diagrams. (4)

(b) Calculate EACH of the following:

(i) The index of compression; (2)

(ii) The work transfer; (2)

(iii) The heat transfer; (2)

(iv) The change in entropy. (6)

Note : for helium cV = 3.116 kJ⁄(kg K), R = 2.077 kJ⁄(kg K)
