Q7. A symmetrical beam, as shown in Fig Q7, is simply supported at either end. It carries a uniformly distributed load of 15 kN/m over its full length and a 2 kN point load at the mid-span position. The maximum permissible bending stress for the beam material is 60 MN/m².

Calculate EACH of the following:

(a) the second moment of area for the I-beam. (4)

(b) the maximum length of the beam for the stated conditions. (12)
