Question

Q22. A mass of 0.15 kg of helium is compressed reversibly in a cylinder, according to the law pVn = constant, from a pressure of 0.95 bar and a temperature of 15°C to a pressure of 7.6 bar. The final temperature is 550°C.

(a) Determine EACH of the following:

(i) the index of compression

(ii) the work transfer

(iii) the heat transfer

(iv) the change in entropy.

(b) Sketch the process on p-V and T-S diagrams.

Note: For He, R = 2.077 kJ/kg K and Cp = 5.193 kJ/kg K.
