Q17. A pure hydrocarbon fuel has the chemical formula CnH2n+2 (where n is a positive integer).

When the fuel is burned in air, the dry products contain 10.78% CO2, 0.98% CO and

4.21% O2 by volume. Determine EACH of the following:

(a) The chemical formula of the fuel

(b) The percentage excess air supplied.

Note: Atomic mass relationships: H = 1; C = 12; O = 16; N = 14

Air contains 21% oxygen by volume.
