Q1. (a) State Dalton’s Law of Partial Pressures.
(b) A vessel of volume 1.71 m3 contains a mixture of air and superheated steam. The temperature is 100°C. When the contents have cooled to a temperature of 50°C, 0.358 kg of steam condenses, and the total pressure drops to 2.12 bar. Determine EACH of the following:
(i) The total mass of water and steam present
(ii) The mass of air present
(iii) The initial total pressure.
Note: For air, R = 0.287 kJ/kg K
