Question

Q1. Carbon Dioxide expands reversibly according the law . The initial pressure, volume and temperature are 12 bar, 0.09  and  respectively. The final volume and temperature are 0.457  and 154  respectively.

(a) Sketch the process on pressure-Volume and Temperature-specific entropy diagrams.(2)

(b) Calculate EACH of the following:

(i) the polytropic index of expansion; (2)

(ii) the change in internal energy; (4)

(iii) the work transfer; (2)

(iv) the heat transfer; (2)

(v) the change in entropy. (4)

Note: for carbon dioxide  = 1.33

relative atomic masses C = 12, O = 16

the universal gas constant Ro = 8.3145 kJ/kmol K.
