Q9) A solid steel shaft 240 mm diameter has a bronze liner shrunk over its entire length, the outside diameter of the liner being 290 mm. The maximum torque transmitted by the composite shaft is 100 kN- m.

Calculate EACH of the following:

a) The maximum stress in the liner: (14)

b) The maximum stress in the shaft. (2)

Note:

Modulus of rigidity for steel = 90 GN/m2.

Modulus of rigidity for bronze = 42 GN/m2.
