Q1. (a) A ship leaves port A at 0600 hours and heads for port B at a speed of 15 knots.

A tug leaves port B at 1100 hours and heads for port A at 9 knots.

Ports A and B are 243 nautical miles apart.

Calculate the time at which the ship and tug will pass each other. (8)

(b) Solve for x in the following equation: (8)

(x + 2)/(x - 2) + (x + 21)/(x + 3) = 5
